As someone whose involvement and relationship with preservation has evolved purely from a place of passion, I am always intrigued by those who had the foresight to pursue careers relating to preservation or history. The field is replete with interesting characters and warm hearted individuals, making a tangible difference in their corner of the world. These people are looking out for the best interests of people, places and things of past, present and future. And who isn’t charmed by that?
I have been privileged to become acquainted with many of the best and brightest in history and preservation in Indianapolis. (See past post on Scott Keller, one of the swashbucklers of Indianapolis preservation, if ever there was one.) Rather than list those individuals all at once, I thought everyone could find inspiration from individual stories of those in the community impacting preservation and history now. And so, tomorrow I will start a regular feature for HISTORIC INDIANAPOLIS, sharing interviews with many of my favorite (and hopefully some yet unknown to me) historians and preservationists making an impact in Indianapolis. I’m not inclined to save the best for last. First up: Marsh Davis, President of Indiana Landmarks.
