Favorite Fridays: Prosser House on East 10th Street

This home has always had a certain 'je ne sais quoi' about it--and I love it. It is modest and seems fairly simple next to the styles I am most often drawn to-- but I have always loved it. Of course, it doesn't hurt that it's a stone's throw from another (forthcoming blog) favorite, Woodruff Place. If you've ever been on East 10th Street, surely you've noticed this sweet and prim little home quietly sunning herself on her unassuming corner.

I was amused, but not shocked to find this little gem is actually on the National Register of Historic Places. A brief search on ancestry.com lead me to some older photos of the property, and if the National Register sign is still there, I must say it escaped my notice. I'll have to look more carefully next time I go by. It's known as the William Prosser house, built in 1886 and is actually stucco, scored to resemble stone. Evidently, Prosser was a professional plasterer and this, his home, showcased his craftsmanship.

A definite favorite...

Isn't she lovely?
