Happening in Historic Downtown neighborhoods of Indianapolis**FYI- May 1907 has not yet been translated to current house numbers**

May saw Mrs. Horace Wood of 1716 N. Pennsylvania spending a few weeks at French Lick Springs.

The Rev. Mr. And Mrs. Jacob Barrow of Winsboro, Indiana were the guests of Dr. and Mrs. W.M. Heath of 820 North New Jersey Street the week of May 20.

Friends of Mrs. Susan McKernan gave a surprise party Wednesday afternoon, May 22, in honor of her eighty-ninth birthday anniversary at her home in the Fredohema Terrace, 728 North East Street. The rooms were made fragrant with clusters of flowers which had been sent by friends. The guests included Mrs. Austin H. Brown, Ms. E. J. Hammond, Mrs. Ellen Catherwood, Mrs. Moriarty, Mrs. David Fitzgibbons, Mrs. S. P. Sheerin, Mrs. James H. Wilson, Mrs. McElhernan, Mrs. Edward Hastings, Miss Walpole and Miss Catherwood.

Mrs. J. H. Furnas
was the hostess for the Clio Club the afternoon of May 22 at her home 585 Middle Drive Woodruff Place. The club observed an open day. Mrs. John E. Cleland read a paper on “Minor Characters in Literature.” During the afternoon Mrs. Samuel G. Kiser sang a group of songs.

Mrs. Charles Shaler gave a small tea the afternoon of May 22 at her home 1226 N. New Jersey Street in honor of Mrs. Alexander Peddle of Emmetsburg, Ia., who was visiting her sister, Mrs. Hugh McGibeny for a few weeks. Mrs. Shaler was assisted during the afternoon by Mrs. Henry Scott Fraser.

Mrs. John W. Kern returned home on May 22 from a visit in Cincinnati with Mrs. Leonard Hackney of 1836 N. Pennsylvania.

The week of May 23, Mrs. J. B. Kaufman, and daughter, Miss Edith Kaufman of Cincinnati, were visiting Mrs. Kaufman’s parents, Mr. And Mrs. A. Cohn 1938 Talbott Avenue.

Mrs. Wilbur Dark
left on May 23 for Michigan City to visit her parents for a week. 2027 N. Talbott

Mrs. Herman Munk
gave a high tea the afternoon of May 25 at 4 o’clock at her home, 1902 N. Pennsylvania entertaining the members of the senior class of Tudor Hall (which was nearby on Meridian, just south of 16th on the west side of the street) in honor of Miss Esther Johnson of Connersville. Receiving with Mrs. Munk and the guest of honor were Miss Fredonia Allen, Mrs. Arthur Stanley Brooks, Mrs. Everett Thompson and Mrs. James McIntosh, formerly of Connersville. The rooms were profusely adorned with lavender, sweet peas, and clusters of marguerites. Among the guests were Mrs. E. Dwight Johnston and Miss Sophia Pepper of Connersville, Ind.

Miss Bodine
of Philadelphia who had been the guest of Mr. And Mrs. Hugh McGowan, 1305 N. Delaware for a few weeks returned home on May 26.
Mr. And Mrs. D. F. Hadley of Pittsburg, Pa. were visiting Mrs. Susan Green, 410 East Twentieth Street the week of May 27.

Mr. And Mrs. Henry C. Thornton
of 1605 N. Delaware entertained a group of friends with a dinner party the evening of May 27 at their home in honor of Mr. And Mrs. Samuel Herbert Shank, who were visiting Mr. Shank’s parents in Irvington.

The Fortnightly Literary Club met Tuesday afternoon, May 28 at the Propylaeum, 15-19 East North Street. Mrs. James P. Baker read a paper on “The Uses of Poetry” and Mrs. McCullough one on “The Kindly Touch of Sentiment.”

The Indianapolis German Literary Club observed President’s day Tuesday afternoon, May 28 at the German House—SE corner Michigan and New Jersey.

Mrs. Winifred Garstang
of 2034 N. Delaware gave a bridge company Wednesday afternoon, May 29 in honor of Miss Mera Touse whose marriage was to take place in early June.
