Favorite Friday: Rink Mansion 21st & Meridian

You've probably passed it a thousand times--at 21st & Meridian--what is now part of Meridian at 21.

This is a favorite and a WTH, due to the appendage the (insurance?) company added onto the mansion in the 30's. Joseph Rink owned Rink's Clothing Store (for Women) on Illinois (between Market and Washington, if memory serves). I'm not even going to embarrass myself attempting to outline the history of this home or Mr. Rink, since another amazing historian (and downtown pioneer), Leah Orr, did over a year's worth of research on this building.

It sure was a beauty and I often contemplate its former splendor...and this is no criticism of the lovely job that has been done to restore the exterior. I just prefer my mansions without a multi-story attachment hanging off the backside.
