Indianapolis Legacy Families?

I've been thinking about Indianapolis history from a different angle than usual. As a genealogy enthusiast, and one most interested in the late 1800s/early 1900s, I am particularly interested in learning about what those early Indianapolis families left behind. The word "Legacy" is one that has been swishing around in my head. The first name that inevitably springs to mind is "Eli Lilly." Is there anyone whose name represents a larger legacy in this city? (With the $$$ to back it up?) I love that Benjamin Franklin quote, "If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead and rotten, either write things worth reading, or do things worth the writing." I would be interested in hearing others' perspective on legacies left in the city.

Everyone has heard of Eli Lilly, but not everyone has seen his house that used to be in the 1400 block of Meridian. Too bad this part of his legacy (and those of so many other early families) is long gone!
