Odd Fellows in Downtown Indianapolis

Odd Fellows, downtown? Oh boy, the stories I could tell... But alas, this is a history blog and I shant digress as it is late and the vino is wearing off...
Perusing a book about Indy published in 1870, I found this amazing depiction of the old OddFellows Hall. Said book indicated this was built on the northeast corner of Washinton and Meridian. Thank you to George Hanlin, another Indy historian, who pointed out this actually stood on the Northeast corner of Washingtong and Pennsylvania Streets. This building is said to have cost $30,000 to construct in addition to the $17,000 for the real estate and "was planned by Francis Costigan and finished with a dome by D. A. Bohlen." It was described as "...a sort of cross between a Gothic chapel and the Taj Mehal, but it is the most attractive bbuilding on Washington street for all that." The ground floor rented to a bank and other businesses, the second story for offices and the third was used as the Odd Fellows Lodge. Wonder when this beauty was torn down in the name of progress?
