While you are enjoying those deep fried twinkies, donuts or snickers bars, or marveling at the ample cojones of the random farm animal, perhaps you may have a moment or two to reflect on what the Indiana State Fair looked like in its youth...
On October 4th, 1869, a huge boiler explosion killed almost 30 fair goers. Imagine the agricultural building turned into a makeshift hospital: sacks of corn and grain that once bulged with plenty poured on the pathway as said sacks were emptied of contents to be used for bandaging survivors. Grateful we are that this particular fair experience did not repeat itself.
