Mrs. A.A. Wilkinson held a reception, May 12, in honor of Mrs. Hord at 1731 (later 1739) N. Pennsylvania (no longer standing).
Mrs. Frank N. Fitzgerald entertained the Young Ladies’ Society of the First Baptist Church on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 9, at her home, 2006 (now 2012) North Alabama Street. Officers of the society were elected on that day.
Mrs. A.B. Mitchell entertained the Over the Teacups Club Friday, May 12 at 1810 Talbott Avenue. (no longer standing) A Mrs. Sickles presented a paper entitled “The Analytical Novel,” and Mrs. Finch “The Downright Story Teller.” The Over the Teacups Club was a women’s monthly club that discussed literature followed by a cup of tea. The club’s name was taken from the title of a book.
On Tuesday, May 9, Mrs. J. Q. Van Winkle and Miss Mary Van Winkle of 1901 N. Pennsylvania were expected home from their trip to California.
Mrs. Willard A. Evans entertained the Clio Club—comprised of women who loved literature—the afternoon of Friday, May 12, at her home 1830 (now 1836) N. Delaware St.
Mrs. Charles A. Dryer of 1620 (later 1636) N. Central and Mrs. James W. Noel (of 1625 N. Central) issued invitations for a reception Friday, May 26, from 3 to 6 o’clock at 1625.
On May 25, Mrs. Samuel D. Wiel of Cleveland was visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Rauh of 1914 (later 1926) N. Alabama. (no longer standing)
The bi-weekly meeting of the Parlor Club was held on the afternoon of May 24 at the home of Mrs. George W. Benton of 2027 (later 2051)N. Talbott Avenue. (no longer standing) Mrs. Benton’s sister, Mrs. Joseph R. Smith of St. Louis was a guest at the meeting yesterday afternoon, prior to her evening departure. The Parlor Club examined literary works and was one of the few to include both men and women in its membership.
At the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. McBride 1606 N. Central Avenue (no longer standing), at 5:30 o’clock on Wednesday, May 24, the marriage of their daughter, Daisy McBride Starr, and Mr. Kent A. Cooper took place. The members of the two families were present to witness the ceremony, including the Rev. and Mrs. Fraser of Jackson, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Kissling of Elwood and Mrs. Arthur W. Allen of Chicago. Mrs. Fraser and Mrs. Kissling are sisters of the bridegroom. The ceremony was pronounced by the Rev. Mr. Fraser. The bridal couple stood under a graceful canopy in the swell window in the drawing room, where strands of smilax and clusters of daisies were formed into canopy effect. The flowers in the room were peonies, roses and syringe. There were no attendants. The bride wore a gown of white silk muslin with lace and embroidery, pink girdle and sash, and carried roses. At 6 o’clock a wedding dinner was served. The table was laid for eighteen, the name cards being water color sketches. The decorations were roses and silver candle holders with white candles.
Mrs. Frank M. Millikan of 2110 N. Delaware gave a tea on the afternoon of May 28 for Mrs. Harry Boyd Millikan who resided at 2206 N. Talbott.
